What if the world didn’t want you to go straight? Out on parole after almost ten years in prison, Emet First is repairing his shattered life. He has friends, a job, and his first date in a decade. The young woman, Mercedes Finch, is lovely but wounded. When her deranged brother learns about Emet’s past, he will stop at nothing to destroy him–and suddenly Emet has everything to lose.
A heart-warming novella about stories, friendships and finding love in the most normal places and abnormal ways.
Emet, an ex con and current café employee/baker, asks Mercedes, a physical therapist, out on a date. Throw in a lovely café owner who gets to know her customers, some forged cheques, a drug-addict brother out for revenge and a large number of quirky yet loveable characters, and you have a novella that packs a punch in such a short space.
The characters were all deep and interesting, the story pacy and the plot multi-faceted. A great little read.
