I am delighted to welcome Kristina Knight, author of Protecting the Quarterback, on the blog today as part of her author blog tour. The book review blog tour is following soon, and I will be posting my review as part of the tour on 21 June.

Once upon a time, Kristina Knight spent her days running from car crash to fire to meetings with local police–no, she wasn’t a troublemaker, she was a journalist. Her career took her all over the United States, writing about everything from a serial killer’s capture to the National Finals Rodeo. Along the way, she found her very own Knight in Shining Cowboy Boots and an abiding love for romance novels. And just like the characters from her favorite books, she’s living her own happily ever after. Kristina writes sassy contemporary romance novels; her books have appeared on Kindle Best Seller Lists. She loves hearing from readers, so drop her a line!

Welcome, Kristina. Tell us a little bit about you…

Hey, everyone! I’m Kristina Knight and I’m really excited to be here today! I write contemporary romance, am an avid American football (and baseball, but really, American football) fan… and I can’t wait to tell you more about my book!

Your inspiration for Protecting the Quarterback?

My love of American football, first and foremost! I wanted to write about a woman (Brooks) who was in a man’s world, and who celebrated that world… but yet who didn’t deny her feminine side. And that sounds really heavy, doesn’t it? It’s a fun book about embracing yourself and the world around you.

Are you a romantic at heart?

Definitely. Hearts and flowers (although I prefer plants to cut) and weddings and first dates and… they all give me happy sigh moments.

Where and when do you write?

Mostly, I write during the day when RadioMan and bebe are at work and school. The where depends on the day – if I’m editing, I’m in my office. If I’m drafting, I’m usually in the living room in my favorite chair, but I also like to get out of the house…so I can also be found at our library or Starbucks or Panera madly typing away.

Are you a planner or a pantser?

Yes to both! I call myself a pant-lotter. I find I need a little structure, so I’ll create a very loose outline… and see where the characters take me.

Do you do any research?

I do! Usually it’s place research – what do the beaches here look like or what do ranchers here wear…that kind of thing. I hit a lot of travel sites, Pinterest, that kind of thing.

Do you read inside your genre or out when writing?

Sure! I read across genres (mystery/thriller, literary, nonfiction biographies, romance), and whatever strikes my fancy at the moment – whether I’m writing or planning – is what I read.

Your author heroes?

Nora Roberts, because she’s so prolific. Mark Twain, because he really knew how to make words sing. Jayne Ann Krentz because she keeps me on my toes. Kristan Higgins because she’s so amazing with character…. the list goes on!
