The Blurb:

March 24. Billionaire Lyndon Surway takes off in his private plane and never returns.

His will leaves the entirety of his wealth—one of the largest fortunes in history—to his “dear friend Lucian Baker.” Only there is no trace of anyone by that name. And the fortune itself is nowhere to be found.

Andrew Day knows nothing of wealth and privilege, but he won a scholarship to study at the most exclusive school in the country, in the town where the mystery, decades later, remains unsolved. There he discovers friendship and danger with the aristocratic Cameron and the beautiful Olivia. But watchful eyes follow him everywhere… Until, one night, he comes across a secret that will change his life. As he begins to unravel what really happened to the Surway fortune, the question remains: who is Lucian Baker?

My Review:

Suspenseful, thought-provoking, and a good old-fashioned mystery all seasoned with a dash of coming-of-age, this was a great read.

Andrew Day finds himself at a school on a scholarship he didn’t apply for in a town that holds many secrets, most as a result of the disappearance of billionaire local, Lyndon Surway, decades prior to Andrew’s arrival. Trying to navigate his way in a school where everyone’s an heir to an illustrious parent, Andrew feels drawn to Cameron and Olivia from the first day, and an unlikely friendship is born. Add in watchful strangers, and a lot of strange happenings, and the secrets of the house Andrew’s been hosted in, and the decade-long mystery begins unfurling…

With pace, mystery, and hints of gothic flavouring (I had Gotham City in my head on more than one occasion), this was well-written and enjoyable mystery fiction. The characterisation was strong, with a host of interesting supporting cast members, and the plot was intriguing. Recommended.
